Romance

Romance

Lying at the heart of any relationship and wedding ceremony is love and romance.  It has been the inspiration for poets and songwriters for hundreds of years, so why not look to some of the greats for inspiration for your big day - think Shakespeare's 'Midsummer Night's Dream', Austen's 'Sense & Sensibility' or D.H. Lawrence's 'Sons & Lovers'.

Love is definitely in the air with this theme.  Wheather you are a hopeless romantic or simply want a sublte intonation of your romantic disposition, there are many ways you can make this theme work for you and it is perfect for celebrations at any time of the year.

One of the great things about the simple romantic look is that it works well with and can be easily created in any venue, so whether you are having your celebration in a marquee, stately home, village hall or five star hotel, this look is easy to style and can also be tailored to different colour schemes to fit in with your venue's decor and surroundings.

For your colour palette for this theme, think pink - in which ever shade you prefer - be it delicate baby pinks or stronger vibrant fusia pinks.  A mixture of a variety of shades also works really well.  Build upon this by introducing shades of ivory, greens and lilacs.

Nothing says ‘I love you' more than roses and bouquets of mixed pink shades make beautiful, romantic floral displays.  Irises are also a wonderful choice of bloom as they have a delicate appearance coupled with a wonderful floral fragrance.  Intricate alstroemeria are also a lovely romantic bloom and are available in a variety of shades.

Add to your romantic atmosphere by introducing gentle lighting in the form of subdued lighting and of course, lots of candles.

Heart themed decorations are a simple and iconic way of making romance the order of the day.  Below are some gorgeous ideas:

To decorate your tables, use the base palette colours of pinks and ivory.  Start with plain table cloths and linen and introduce elements of colour throughout the table, reflected in centrepieces, napkins and place settings
Pale pink rose petals scattered across the tables adds beautiful texture to the romantic theme
Pink organza bags filled with pink sugarded almonds add a delicate romantic touch to your favours
Let the sparks fly on your tables with heart sparklers for your guests.  Pop them in a dessert or leave them in the wine glasses for instant pizzazz
Re-live the love and laughter of your wedding day for years to come by passing round a beautiful guest book for guests to leave their well wishes

Instead of having numbers for your tables, think about naming them after some of the great, classic love films such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Music can be very important in creating a romantic atmosphere, think carefully about the style of romantic music you would like, classical, ballads or more modern
A wonderful way romantic to draw the evening to a close is to get all of your guests outside and release some sky lanterns.  The lanterns symbolise hope, goodwishes and prosperity and make a serene and peaceful display as they float off into  the evening
