Vintage

Perfect for spring or summer weddings, vintage wedding themes have become increasingly popular over recent years.  When we think of a Vintage themed wedding, we visualise beautiful floral crockery, delicate pastel shades and subtle light touches.  However, it is worth noting that the word vintage basically means era, a period of time somewhere in the past.  This means that if you decide to have a vintage theme for your wedding day, this can be completely open to interpretation.  Your theme could include anything from the traditions of victorian afternoon tea, the fabulousness of the 1920's 'flapper' era, or the glamour of the 1940's.

The important thing to bear in mind when deciding upon a Vintage theme is to choose an era that best reflects your style and personality.  Once you have done that, then select your favourite aspects of that era to reflect throughout your wedding day, which can provide alot of entertainment and fun!

In terms of a venue setting, since the theme is open to so much interpretation almost any venue can be transformed into your perfect Vintage backdrop for your special day.  For Spring or Summer months, think of a beautiful country house or pretty marquee in a floral garden.

For a vintage colour palette, look to delicate ice cream pastel shades in pinks, lilacs and blues.  Cute polka dots, gingham patterns and mismatching floral fabrics can add a kitsch, fun element.

For floral displays look to a blossoming, established garden.  Flowers with a hint of nostaliga that have a 'freshly picked from the garden feel'.  Roses in dusky pinks, fragrant lilac, delicate jasmine and hydrangeas.  For a more informal feel, try masses of beautiful, fragrant sweetpeas displayed in mismatching glassware.

Lanterns hanging from trees and lots of candles scattered around provide a subtle ambiance.  Try having lots of old, recycled jam jars, tied with pretty ribbons, containing tea lights dotted around the venue and table settings.

When it comes to decorating your venue, lots of modern themes such as hearts and flowers can compliment a vintage concept.

Below are a few ideas to get you started on how to decorate your tables in a vintage theme:

Drape vintage lace over plain white table cloths for a delicate vintage touch.  Accessorise with lots of pretty coloured glass and mismatching crockery
Scattering some irridescent hearts table confetti will add some subtle shimmer to your vintage table and is excellent is using lots of glass as it will reflect beautifully off the glassware
Fill favours with nostalgic, retro sweets to bring a fun element to your vintage table
A fun, cute table accessory for your guests are bubbles.  They are a great way of amusing both adults and children alike!
Ensure all of your precious memories of the day are captured by placing some disposable cameras on the tables.  Choose suitably vintage colours such as ivory and pale pink.

Once you have your decor sorted, think about adding a few quirky extras to emphasize your vintage theme:

The groom could arrive at the church on a vintage bicycle.  Or, if you are feeling particularly adventerous, you could try hiring a vintage tandem to get you and your beloved to the reception (recommended for short distances only)!!
How about keeping guests chilled and happy by hiring an ice cream van serving traditional ices?
For a more informal reception, think about having afternoon tea.  Think finger sandwiches, scones and delicious pastries served on beautiful vintage crockery and cake stands
