“My love is like a red, red rose that’s newly sprung in June.”  Whatever the season, or whatever the reason – from a candle lit dinner for two, an exceptional wedding, a special birthday, a Christening or even a Christmas table, rose petals will add the perfect finishing touch and provide instant splendour to any occasion. There are a countless ways to use them as table decorations on your special day to create an attractive look, but we have chosen our top ten favourites to get your inspiration flowing:

Blush freeze dried wedding rose petals

Use Petals as gorgeous table top decoration

Traditional ivory rose petals are lovely in confetti cones for guests

1. Scatter on tables – with rose petals available in so many colours now you can match them to the colour scheme for your occasion, such as white or pink for a romantic wedding look, or red for a romantic Valentine’s day meal

2. Rose petals are perfect for lining a path with.  They can be sprinkled down the aisle, guide the way to the marquee or even rather naughtily to the bedroom

3. For indulgent confetti, fill confetti cones or petal bags and shower a newly-wed couple with real rose petals.  Make sure the photographer is on hand to capture the moment!

4. Petals scattered generously around a church candle are a simple way of creating beautiful centrepieces and can help save money on floral displays

5. Wicker baskets trimmed with ribbon and filled with rose petals are a great alternative to bouquets for flower girls

6. Use rose petals in colours to match your colour scheme, to decorate a cake or cupcakes.  But please note that while the rose petals may look good enough to eat, they are not edible!

7. Float freeze-dried rose petals in a bowl of water, along with some floating candles, for a soft romantic centrepiece

8. Using freeze-dried rose petals, freeze them (again!) in either individual ice-cubes for indulgent looking champagne or within an ice-block for a glamorous winter wonderland themed occasion

9. Put inside clear balloons for a dramatic effect.  If you slightly wet the inside of the balloons, the petals will stick to the edges.  Or simply leave the balloons dry for a more floaty effect.  If you are planning on wetting the balloons, remember to use freeze-dried petals

10. A vase or glass bowl filled with rose petals can make a stunning centrepiece.  Alternatively, for a decadent table setting, place a few rose petals into each guest’s empty wine glass.  When they come to pour the wine, the petals tipped onto the table will add to the indulgence of the setting

For those brides who are on a tight budget we’ve got some beautiful new Organza Petals at The Last Detail which are not only stunning, they’re also an amazing price point if you’re worried about ever growing costs for your table decorations.

Kaley Gardiner

Founder of The Last Detail. Kaley, admits that a perfect day away from the business she built from scratch is one spent not wearing a scrap of make up and stomping around the countryside with her two children, husband Mark and the family dogs. Once sent to the headmaster in school for instigating a game of Kiss Catch in the playground, Kaley’s childhood nickname was ‘Miss Piggy’, coined from her bossy nature! She detests rudeness, and rubbish customer service and loves classical riding, opera and Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. When asking her little boy and girl what they thought she should write on her ‘about me’ section the answers were ‘Mummy is beautiful and kind’ and ‘tell them you’re cuddly’ (hopefully meaning in terms of giving them not looking cuddly!)
